There are 2 different rebates that apply to Solar Hot Water Systems.

If you are replacing their existing electrical hot water system, you are eligible for the Federal Government rebate of $1,000 under the new Renewable Energy Bonus Scheme. The Federal rebate does not apply to new home builders.

Everyone who purchases a Solar Hot water system receives Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs). The number of RECs that you will receive is based on the system that you purchase.

The Renewable Energy Certificates can be traded for cash and the the value of these certificates fluctuates according to market conditions. They are a commodity and vary daily in value.

An example for consideration:

If your system is eligible for 29 RECs and the current price offered is $33, that means that $957 will be returned to your pocket.
